Come with me

Curated by Gea Politi (London/Milan)

I wanted to present some filmmakers at this Biennale. I didn’t want to do any kind of research, since I never liked searching for anything. I’m still dreaming and looking for someone who writes instead of me. So: no desire to search, no willingness to write. Let’s see what was next…I wanted to contact some filmmakers I liked: Atom Egoyan, Nanni Moretti, Lars Von Trier and I wanted them to choose for me the people for the Biennale. At the first impediment I gave up. I couldn’t bear to hear a negative answer from them, or a busy schedule, or a failure—I would have died. Could my future in the cinema world have dissolved immediately for a little tiny error like this? Are we crazy?
So I went to the cinema. Every night, one film. And all the young experimental filmmakers showing their movies were there. Great, creative people were working so hard to be in this world. I also realized there were no bad films anymore. Everyone is capable of making great films now. And so after all the crying and taking drugs in the night because of all these incredible films, I still had no ideas for my filmmakers project.
So I did the most humiliating thing I could have ever thought of: I called a friend who could help me find interesting filmmakers. And that’s what I did. That was the best solution I found after all these journeys.
So thanks to all the people I have talked to in these months, you really saved my a life, and please, try to come with me more often!
