Beautiful Banners
Representation/Democracy/Partecipation

curated by Marco Scotini (Italy)
In a moment of radical social transformation and the emergence of a new global order, Beautiful Banners takes on the space of conflict as the privileged space of representation and addresses artistic practices as the meeting point between the public and symbolic sphere, between popular activism and social protest.

But what are our current flags? Those of the radical crisis of the politician, and if not, of his more consolidated representation? Isolated or in groups, from the outskirts or from the centers of power, many international artists are trying to respond to the new global order through practices that make art a form of social transgression if not a metaphor for positions of dissent and resistance. Slogans, manifestos, flags, parades, processions, attacks on military institutions, urban graffiti, illegal practices, and raids during political, social, cultural, and everyday events, are part of their activities. A dozen of the best of these artists, from Benin to Mexico, from Guatemala to Slovakia, will constitute the field of action of Beautiful Banners: Representation/Democracy/Participation.
