What is the practice of Parrotism?
Parrotism is a radical act which transforms the realm of language into a
continuous, perpetual present.
It is the persuasion to place no value in the meaning of signs.
It asserts subjectivity through the empirical reshuffle of readymade
meanings, yet it eradicates any subjective claim to originality.
It invites sensual escapism, although it only leads into a mirror.
It paradoxically stands for both paganism and divine inspiration.
It is an invitation to abandon the site of our belief system: a pile of
ashes.
It is about the love for art objects that promote social responsibility
through the finesse of representation, yet it functions as the most
convenient way to avoid political engagement without becoming a target.
It is like the culture we have made: full of parrot talk.
It is like reality: a repetition; go open your window and hear the
cacophony!
It is an allegory of the postcolonial avant-garde, yet it is not only
an allegory of the postcolonial avant-garde.
And most important: it is about getting in touch with the wounded inner
parrot we all have inside.
