The 3-piece video-mosaic is made up of a system mixed from sign
language and the language of advertising. The advertisements are explained by means of the body-language used here by a hearing-impaired person, while the female voice deciphers the visual codes with the help
of the narration, as it dubs the key slogans (we use our ears to hear the ending statements of TV commercials referring to the message of
products, whereas we make use of our eyes to follow the advertising text accompanied by the gestures of the hearing-impaired person).
The first step of the translation was to render the Hungarian sentences into a sign language operating with several thousand signs. The statements of commercials often produce the targeted effect because they have several meanings. Thus the sign language, which proved to be insufficient with its signs which are less in number than those of verbal communication, was completed by the performer's acting (a hearing impaired person himself). The next
difficulty was to translate the Hungarian text into English. Here the biggest challenge was to reflect the polyphonic nature of these condensed
sentences. The advertising statements on the video have been selected from the Hungarian commercials most frequently broadcast in year 2002.
