Jitka Válová
1922, Kladno

Jitka Válová is one of those Czech artists who give the 20th century
painting a new live. She did it first of all together with her alter ego, her twining Kv_ta. Both relieved figurative subject from divers modern cliché and renewed basic gesture and meanings of body in the painting. Their study at the Prague Academy of Applied Art in the Studio of Emil Filla in years 1945-1950 disposed them to fellow the figurative theme in the time of human experience of many civilizations, cultures and centuries. The work of Jitka Válová as well as work of her sister was since forties up to seventies outside bigger attention. First recognition of their contribution took place at the beginning of eighties in the context of new expressionism in international art. Jitka’s contribution differs from this tendency in art, exploring existential experiences from the times of totalitarian regimes.
