GLOCAL GIRLS

Young Czech and Slovak Women Photographers

Many creative tendencies are truly international and can be applied with similar degrees of strength in photographic creations in the Czech Republic as well as Slovakia, irrespective of whether or not their authors are men or women.
It is about emphasizing a subjective view, the author's self-reflex and introspection, the fundamental role of holding a firm creative concept while at the same time often refusing content which can be clearly interpreted, the co-existence of intimate and social or political topics, the exploration of actual photographic media and the truthfulness of how we depict the world both from the outside and inside, the ever spreading exploitation of photographs in the work of professional artists, the fusion of photography with painting, drawing or video art and how this is applied in multimedia installations, the strong positioning of various aspects of staged photography as well as portraits, shots of town environments or visual diaries, the mingling of the principles of documentary and arranged photography, the preference of cycles over individual shots, the complete dominance of color over black and white photography, the inventive exploitation of possibilities which computer modified images can convey.
In Getulio Alviani’s labyrinth – where Glocal Girls is displayed – the viewer can feel the extremely wide range of interpretations of contemporary art.
